Where is Spetses?

Spetses is a charming island in Greece, known for its pine-covered hills, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and horse-drawn carriages that give it an old-world charm. It’s part of the Saronic Gulf islands — about two hours southwest of Athens.

When should I get to Spetses?

To fully enjoy the weekend, we recommend arriving on Thursday afternoon. We’ll kick off with drinks to celebrate on Thursday. We recommend making a dinner reservation at one of the popular restaurants on the island, including Tarsanas, Orloff, and Patralis!

How do I get around the island?

The island is small and car-free (with the exception of a few taxis and buses) — you can get around the entire island by ATV in just about an hour (which we highly highly recommend!). Almost everything is accessible via foot on flatland, bike, scooter or … horse-drawn carriage!

How many days should I stay?

We recommend staying 3–4 nights to truly enjoy the island — enough time to relax by the sea, explore the cobblestone streets, and soak in the celebrations. Many guests are planning to arrive by Thursday and depart on Sunday for a long, leisurely weekend. For those coming from the US, Labor Day falls on the Monday after the wedding (so more time to travel back!). We have a suggested itinerary below.

What should I do?

Stay tuned for our guide of favorites — from ceramics to gyros to beaches, we’ve got you! Until then, here’s a little preview featured in Vogue.

What other places should I visit while in Greece?

If you have extra time, we recommend spending a few days in Athens before or after the wedding — the city is rich with history, great food, and lively neighborhoods. Our guide of favorites will come soon!

If you choose to travel more around Spetses, nearby destinations include:

  • Hydra – a car-free artists’ haven, just twenty minutes away by ferry from Spetses.

  • Nafplio – a romantic coastal town with Venetian architecture, best reached on the way by car to Spetses.

  • Porto Heli – a relaxing mainland resort area with beautiful beaches, just 10 minutes from Spetses by water taxi. For those of you looking for a luxurious getaway, Amanzoe is located here.

Our suggested itinerary would be to spend 2 days in Athens, 2-3 days in Hydra, and 3-4 days in Spetses.

For those of you excited by the charm and magic of Greece — we get it! — there are so many places to explore. Do note that if you travel to the Cycladic islands (where Mykonos and Santorini are located), you should head back to Athens before traveling to Spetses (there is no easy way to go directly other than by private charter).

For those making a trip out of the wedding, we’d be happy to make more specific recommendations on itineraries — just ask us!

Are kids invited?

We love your little ones! However, our wedding celebrations will be adults-only so everyone can relax and enjoy the festivities. We truly appreciate your understanding and will recommend trusted local babysitting options if you’re traveling with family.

Do you have a registry?
